If we haven't received your submission before you arrive, you will be asked to fill it out on-site before you participate.

  2. Register for SASEhack through SASENC17 registration (choose the FREE "Collegiate Career Fair Plus SASEhack" option OR choose the "Collegiate Full Conference Plus SASEhack" option if you would like to attend conference sessions in addition to SASEhack)
  3. If you have a team, be sure all of your teammates have registered on this Devpost (if you don't have a team, you can search for one on here or at the event)

Join us to envision how technology innovations can help revolutionize human health and performance. Consider two opportunities:

  1. Data Science: Use open data and your data science skills to generate insights for public health initiatives and leadership engagement to help the U.S. Army improve health and increase resilience.
  2. Immersive: Develop immersive tech (i.e. virtual and augmented reality) solutions to maintain, restore and improve physical and cognitive performance. Make enhancements to existing application or build your own.

Hackathon solutions can include software/hardware prototypes in addition to creative ways to enhance your solution, including market research on the tracks and novel ways to promote your ideas.


Participants will have:

  • Data Science Track: Access to publicly available data sets and basic starter resources
  • Immersive Track: Access to AR/VR hardware to test solutions with basic starter code (e.g. build enhancements to existing prototypes)

In addition, there will be 3-4 mentors with expertise in data science, immersive tech and health available at the hackathon.

Technical Rigor (30%)
  • The team utilizes their technical and scientific skillset to develop a product or solution.
  • The analytic techniques used are applied correctly.
  • The team exhibits a strong understanding of the technology and data available.
Innovative (30%)
  • The idea is unique or a creative take on an existing solution.
  • The solution is ambitious in addressing the challenges outlined.
  • The solution addressed the theme provided and made use of, or expanded upon, provided resources.
  • The product gives a meaningful solution to the given challenge.
Feasibility and Impact of Solution (30%)
  • There are limited errors/bugs (if team developed a prototype).
  • The user-facing interface is intuitive.
  • The concept is well thought-out.
  • The solution has reaches beyond SASEhack, i.e., a product was (or could be) developed that would be of interest to potential customers.
Quality of Pitch (10%)
  • The team prepared a thoughtful presentation of their solution.
  • The team is able to explain their work and how they came to conclusions about the data or their solution.
  • The team clearly stated all limitations and assumptions.


SASEhack participants are free to attend the STEM Career Fair, which will be in the same building. For those participants who have registered to attend conference sessions as well, the main conference will also take place in the same building.


Food and drinks will be provided FREE for the duration of the event.  You are welcome to bring in food from the outside, but please clean up after yourself.

Devpost Achievements

Submitting to this hackathon could earn you:


1) Participants must be college students -- undergrad or grad.

2) All teammates must have pre-registered for SASEhack through SASENC2017 registration as well as on this Devpost.

3) Teams must be at least 3 members and at most 5 members.

4) Hacks must have started at SASEhack. Any prior work may not be used at SASEhack, but prior ideas are welcome!


Hacks can be:

3) Whatever your wonderful mind comes up with!

As long as it's inline with the theme of the event.

How to enter

1) Enter the name of your hack.

2) Add ALL your team members to your Devpost submission.

3) Tell us about your hack! Be sure to include any relevant images and/or video in your description.

3) Include a link to your hack (if applicable).

4) Submit before the deadline! No later than 4PM Saturday, Oct 14.
